about

This is my complete set from the 2018 London Bass Guitar Show - now with the added track from the Seminar a day earlier at the show!

The title track is rather mellower than a set at a trade show might normally be expected to be, and I'm hugely grateful to the organisers for booking me and letting me contexualise the bass as something other than a gymnastic tool or a groove machine :)

It's a lovely crystallisation of a lot of the elements I've been exploring in improvised settings over the last couple of years - the piano/Quneo solo in the middle is one of my favourite moments like that in anything I've ever done. And the wonky groove at the beginning has a really satisfying feel...

The seminar track - Warming Up - was the last 7 minutes of my masterclass on improv the day before. Having talked about improv for 20 minutes or so, I then proceeded to play something that reflected some of the things I'd been describing!

The third track here is from a show a week later than the Bass Guitar Show, at the National Science And Media Museum in Bradford. Exploring similar territory with some subtle and significant changes/developments...

I think I'm going to see if I can move in a slightly different direction over the next while... just see what else is happening when I let go of some of the tropes I've been exploring regularly for the last couple of years. So this (and the other upcoming releases) serve as a benchmark of sorts...

I hope you enjoy it!
