Another - not surprisingly, given Steve's situation - very introspective release by this outstanding and idiosyncratic artist. I sincerely hope for a complete recovery! All the best wishes to you, Steve!!!

This album was recorded in one session, back to back on Sept 2nd. A gig to a time-shifted audience. There were no false starts, no second takes, just three tracks played one after the other, an outpouring of emotion and thought and joy and hope and celebration and some fear and trepidation in the middle of this journey with lymphoma. In as much as it’s possible, this is a document of how my head felt at that moment. Turn on the tap, hit record, see what comes out. There is exuberance in the soloing on It Comes In Waves, a deep sense of love and calm and joy and hope in things unknown in The Metaphysics Of Unknowing, and in The Best We Can Hope For a reflection on ‘the best’ in the context of a previously understood worst. The relief that things are moving in the right direction, that the future is filled with possibility. That we are loved and the world is still an open door. Big stuff, eh?
I really hope you enjoy it all. I keep listening back to it, hearing new things, understanding it differently, telling a different story with the flow from track to track. It’s all open to whatever you hear and whatever you feel in it, whether that’s just a bunch of cool sounds and tunes, or a specific resonance with the context in which it was made. Those stories are yours and are as important as my own. Please feel free to tell them in the reviews section here or to just message me. I love hearing the ways that people find meaning in the music.

recorded 2nd Sept 2022, at LawSound 2 studios (the spare bedroom).
The audio includes live mics in the room from the Zoom Q2n, capturing the sound of my Trickfish amps, and a whole bunch of acoustic string noise and pedal pressing. Experimenting with adding more 'live' elements into the mix to see how they impact the listening experience... :)
The UK's most celebrated and prolific solo bassist - alternating between solo and collaborative releases - have a rummage around and see what you find. The subscription is by FAR the best way to keep track of the many musical goings on!
