about

The subscriber-only companion album to PS, You Are Brilliant - this comprises three remastered tracks from recent subscriber videos, and one new track - the overall vibe is way more mellow and meditative than PS... Largely because there are no drums or synth sounds on most of the tunes (however, the Lifeboat is as electronic as it gets!), and not even any particularly complex looping. These are simpler meditations exploring particular sets of limitations. Some of the sounds are very much at the experimental development stage (as if anything I do gets beyond that ;) ) - which accounts for the weird bleeps, squeaks, crackles and strangeness. Consider it the seasoning atop this musical feast!

The title is another tribute to Roanne Dods who inspired PS, You Are Beautiful. Small Is Beautiful was a conference Roanne organised every year exploring smallness in enterprise, the arts, business and our lives. It was an extraordinary couple of days, with implications that reached way beyond its billing as a conference for small businesses and micro-entrepreneurs. It was, of course, named after E. F. Schumacher's groundbreaking book of the same name - one my mum gave me when I was about 20, and one that shaped a lot of my thinking about what was important in life, about how best to understand success in an industry obsessed with growth and bigness and sales and nonsense. What Schumacher did for me in my 20s, Roanne did in my 40s. So this is another slice of melodic gratitude.
