William Bodily This album is quite the sonic adventure. I'm amazed at how Steve seamlessly transitions from some rather sonically perpendicular scene of the song, (Play What You See) to weave together a diverse and intricate piece which ends up leading back to the first song, (Draw What You Hear). It's amazing how he keeps track of all the changes to bring them all back around to offer a well rounded and wonderful listening experience. I would have loved to watch this unfold live. Favorite track: Play What You See.

Ian Hall For some reason I struggle to explain why I love a piece of music in writing, even though written communication is my preferred choice. So: ????????❤️ and I hope that you two will repeat this again soon, so that I can enjoy the full audio/visual experience ☺️
Bob Devlin

Bob Devlin I really enjoyed listening to this. You can hear the process of sound to art to sound as it plays out through the pieces. The visuals of the show must have been incredible and richly rewarding to both of you. Thank you, Steve and Poppy.

about

The complete recording from our first show at the Boileroom in Guildford, 27th March 2017.

Illuminated Loops is a project that combines improvised music with synaesthetic art - I create music with basses and electronics, Poppy, who is synaesthetic, draws what she sees. I then react to what's been drawn, treating it as a graphic score, and the loop is complete.

the impact on the music is really interesting - as you can see, these are LONG pieces - each set was continuous, and morphed from one idea to the next. Having the added focus of every sound being 'visible' provides space to expand my sonic and harmonic palette beyond its usual confines. The resulting music is both obviously me, and unlike anything I've played before. Poppy's influence is all over it, hence the record being credited to us as a duo. This music wouldn't be what it is without the visual half of the project.

The download includes a PDF with more extensive sleevenotes. Enjoy!
